What is...
A Ball Lock Pin, also known as a Quick Release Pin or Self-locking Pin, is a fastener which is used to quickly lock or fasten workpieces together. The pin is pushed through a clearance fit hole and the sprung-loaded balls are subsequently pushed out of the pin into a recess, effectively locking the pin in place. To remove the pin from its place, the sprung-loaded balls must be retracted back into the body of the pin. This is done by simply depressing the push-button on the head of the Ball Lock Pin whilst the pin is pulled out of the clearance hole. Quick Release Ball Lock Pins provide quick, easy and positive fastening, locating and alignment of parts. Wixroyd offer Quick release Ball Lock Pins in steel, stainless steel and titanium shafts with varying shear resistance forces.

Non-locking Socket Pin in stainless steel (AISI 303) with thermoplastic handle. Balls are simply spring loaded and do not lock out, therefore these pins are easy and quick to push in/pull out, yet still very secure.
This pin is for locking and clamping thin sheets of material together. Released by using the actuation button, this pin has applications such as welding, or placing protective covers over sheets of material. Clamping distance of up to 5mm.

For items that may not have an incorporated clearance hole suitable for a Ball Lock Pin, we can provide locating flanges or bushings. These products both provide a hole for the insertion of a Ball Lock Pin. Both products could be used from either side.
Stainless steel (AISI 303) flange bushings for quick and safe location of Single Acting Ball Lock Pins. Ideal for use in soft materials or thin walled components. For pin sizes 5 - 16mm.

Lanyards and Retaining Cables for Ball Lock Pins
For added security when securing components at height, why not incorporate a lanyard into the assembly? These minimise the probability of components going missing when removed for servicing or whilst being disassembled and reassembled.
Stainless steel Split Ring to rectangle tab lanyard for use in securing components to assemblies. Green coating. Conforms to military spec MIL-DTL-83420.
Thermoplastic Cable Tie - available with either two cable tie ends, or with one cable tie end and one M4 screw compatible fixing hole. For use at up to 80 °C.
Coiled spring wire lanyard - for removable attachments that require flexible extension. This is a steel wire rope coated in thermoplastic polymer.
Stainless steel Loop-to-loop Lanyard to prevent misplacement of components such as ball lock pins. Stainless steel crimps tested up to 28 Kgf. For use at up to 250 °C (uncoated variation).
